It ‘s an abstraction of a sculpture that sits in the courtyard of University Village in Manhattan. I. M. Pei & Associates were eventually hired to design the complex in December 1960.[65] NYU had conducted over 25 interviews while searching for an architect, but I. M. Pei himself did not participate in the interview process; instead, Eason H. Leonard communicated with NYU on behalf of Pei.[66] Although Pei contributed to the design process, his partner James Ingo Freed was the site's primary architect.[67] a building. The sculpture (the Muse) in the central courtyard is a cubist sculpture called Bust of Sylvette,[122][188] which measures 36 feet (11 m) high and weighs 60 short tons (54 long tons; 54 t).[111][112][187] It was sculpted by the Norwegian artist Carl Nesjar in 1968 based on a design by Pablo Picasso and was originally intended to sit in front of the Kipps Bay development, also designed by I.
